About - The Black Art of Web Publishing

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Why the 'Black Art of Web Publishing'?

The designation 'Black Art' has been used throughout history to describe human activities that are complex and uncertain — often containing aspects of both art and science. During the Victorian Era, typesetting was referred to as a 'black art', as was printing a little later in our history. Still a 'black art' for many of us, the more traditional publishing disciplines have been joined by the web — an environment that has turned many millions of us into content publishers. It is to the exploration of this 'Black Art' that this website is devoted.

The purpose of this web resource ...

Given the large quantity of websites and web publishers, there is a discernible lack of quality content about the activities, disciplines, skills, knowledge and practice that is required to deliver quality web publishing outcomes. This aim of this website is to become a resource for those of us involved in the publishing of web content.

Who is behind this website ...

This website was conceived by senior staff at Komodo CMS, to provide a resource for website editors and publishers to learn more about web publishing than simply how to use a web content management system. The scope of the project grew with the support of a number of organizations and individuals into a general resource, see our website sponsors for more background information. We continue to look for experts in their fields to provide further content and critical assessment in order to improve the quality of this resource for everyone involved in the wide range of web publishing activities.
